Well they say there is no smoke without fire and let me tell you this event had fire! The debut of the Smoke and Fire Festival in Maldon – 19th – 20th Aug 2017 went down an absolute treat. We had an array of stalls; Thai street food from Siam RiceBox to an absolutely AMAZING airstream next door serving all American pulled pork amongst other delightful dishes.
There was locally sourced cider, beer and of course lets not forget we were there with our Moonshine, want to know more about that then check out the info page here,
There was the chilli eating competition, hot wing competition and a BBQ competition – with multiple categories. Our boys Ditch Brisket where cooking up a storm! Ditch Brisket, two fantastic lads, 1st brisket. came 3rd in pork AMAZING. They are going from strength to strength and we cant wait to work with these guys on some special events! The competitions where held on a mobile quarter of a million pound stage in the side of a huge truck, again AMAZING.
We also spotted the amazing Barrel Bar brought to you by Event Factor this just blew our minds serving barrels out of a barrel, go figure….. There was activities for kids, from bouncy castles to fairground rides and whilst the kids could enjoy that the adults could crack on with the food and beverage offering.
The whole event was there to support the UK BBQ scene, believe me there is one, and the Air Ambulance service great charity to support.
Our pitch was full of people trying Moonshine for the first time, a few people who had heard we are there and a few people who wouldn’t leave because they loved the cocktails, especially the Shine Cider Sour – fantastic with BBQ food . We had a supped up Rat-rod outside our stand thanks to Liam the original bootlegger! This is the type of cars that they used to run away from the feds in when transporting the illegal liquor it was great to have him with us and the noise when it started up (check out the video below although the iPhone speakers don’t really do it justice) was enough to make a dog jump about 3m in the air, just as cool to watch as the car to be fair.
Lets sum up, the festival was great, the people of Essex are friendly and loved it (plus they love Moonshine) the diversity of stalls and offerings was on point, if you didn’t make it to this one then fear not I have every confidence this will be an annual event that will grow year on year!
